Red Bull 3Style Tour - Part II

Then we headed East where the weather is foggy and the DJs have no pants

Kitchener

Headphones on and my nose buried in Leibovitz’s At Work the entire flight, I looked up to find we had not landed in Kitchener, but in Toronto. According to the girl across the aisle who had the craziest sitting style I’d ever seen, and who also possessed more attitude than a lion (I was just a little bit in love), Kitchener was too foggy to land in so we had to detour and take a bus down.

Seated in a bus headed from Toronto to Kitchener surrounded by disgruntled Kitchenerarians (?) screaming at the bus driver because ‘that’s the third turn off he’s missed, what a #@!$% prick’ was such an awesome experience.

As the show got going we quickly discovered Kitchener DJs had the most eclectic personalities of any city we visited. This is Everfresh. He started his set with something like ten t-shirts on and ended it with none. Why, you ask? Well each t-shirt was themed. So when he played Metallica, he would have a Metallica shirt on, and when that song ended he’d rip it off to reveal the next shirt. It was amazing.

Then there was Conorcutz, the only DJ of the series who decided that having no pants was the best way to play a set.

He got fined by this dude for indecent exposure. To this day I’m still not entirely sure why a cop would walk into a bar and write-up a DJ for stripping to his underwear - but it’s funny as hell.

DJ Makem took it tonight though. He did not remove any pieces of clothing.

Curtis Santiago and some intergalactic dust!

Toronto

It was a cold wintery Toronto night, but that didn’t stop Toronto from lining into The Mod Club

The other half of Santiago’s band - Mick Boogie

Toronto was all about one DJ - Mensa.

CROWD FAVOURITE this guy.

Curtis on the mic. He used his iPhone as a stopwatch and it always terrified me. What if someone called? If martians invaded with microwaves and destroyed iPhones what would we do? Guess my brain is still stuck in the good ol’ days of the trustworthy simple G-SHOCK. <– EDIT: Wow, this is what happens when you write captions at five in the morning.

Henry is blogging.

Jedi using his powers on a packed club

Tasc with lots of lights. If you look at this pic real hard, he could actually be underwater in the deep ocean. Red Bull 3Style Atlantic Ocean tour coming soon.

M-Rock had a great custom Russel Peters sample. Imagine if Russel Peters left messages on your voice answering machine. Wow.

Flosstradamus finishing off a really excellent night

Ottawa

We drove to Ottawa on a verrry long and verrry dull drive. But I shouldn’t complain, guess we are spoilt with the scenery in Vancouver.

Ottawa itself is an absolutely gorgeous city though. The architecture there is just incredible. Plus there are other things I like about the city, namely Jokers of the Scene hail from there, and my friend Jeremy Hanson-Finger is editor of Carleton University’s only sex magazine - The Moose & Pussy. This makes Ottawa extremely cool in my books.

D-Mass kickin’ it

Kaem, patient as I had fun with shapes and quadrants

I was absolutely enamoured with the lights in there. They looked like upside down ambient jellyfish. Kid SL, featured in this photo with a lovely wig on, took a deserved first place. He mashed an entire basement full of tracks into 15 minutes, how I do not know.

Tore2 played outside in the absolute freezing cold and came in to play first with icicle fingers. Here he’s chillin’ with a girl who is not of the cold variety, quite the opposite actually.

One very early flight back later, we would again return to the East Coast.

Part III - Quebec City / Halifax / Montreal

Part IV - Toronto (finals)
